A plan that’s compatible with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Preventative and Hospital Care 3000 has rock-bottom premiums and a high deductible ($3,000). The idea behind the plan is that you sock away $3,000 in pretax dollars in an HSA, which would be spent toward the deductible before benefits kick in.
While the deductible is lower than some similarly priced plans, Preventative and Hosptial Care 3000 has pre-deductible co-pays for office visits to your doctor and no copays for prescription drugs. Some other high-deductible health plans at least let you make a routine visit to your doctor for a small co-pay prior to burning through your deductible. This one does not. It also makes you pay 20% of post-deductible expenses up until you hit the high out-of-pocket maximum of $5,000. But, ultimately, you’ll make up for that with premium price. And the benefits of owning an HSA will deliver you further tax savings.
PROS: A big pro is
Aetna itself. Aetna provides easy access to cost-effective health care through a nationwide network of more than 684,000 health care professionals, including over 405,000 primary care and specialist doctors and 4,135 hospitals.
CONS: High out-of-pocket expenses. You won’t enjoy any benefits from the plan until you have burned through the deductible.
BEST FOR: Someone looking for a moderate deductible for a low, low premium price, and anyone looking for an HSA-compatible plan.
