Vimo Editorial: Health Plan Profile

The Lumenos HIA plan is similar to the Lumenos HSA plan -- only without the HSA. Instead you have access to an "HIA" or Health Incentive Account that holds dollars you earn for using certain tools and services to improve your health. Talk to an agent for details about how HIAs work and whether opening one is right for you.  Lumenos also offers an online health assessment designed to help you measure your overall health; personalized health coach programs, smoking cessations programs and weight management programs; a 24-hour nurse advice line; and an online health site that includes network provider listings, hospital quality ratings and prescription drug costs.

PROS: Someone who wants to take advantage of Lumenos' unique HIA benefit.

CONS: Blue Cross has an excellent network in California. Lumenos also offers excellent benefits for a high-deductible plan and reasonably priced premiums.

BEST FOR: An HIA is not an HSA, which lets you take unspent pre-tax money into a retirement account. Talk to an agent about the limits of an HIA and whether you would benefit more from it than you would from an HSA plan.
