Vimo Editorial: Health Plan Profile

Blue Cross of California's PPO HSA Compatible Plan is one of the cheapest that BC offers in the Golden State , so benefits are non-existent – until you burn through your $3,500 deductible. Then you'll pay $0 for most covered services. Unlike some high-deductible plans on the market, it also merges your medical and pharmacy deductibles, so every time you purchase prescription drugs, the cost applies toward your deductible. The best thing about the plan, however, is that it enables you to open a Health Savings Account (HSA).

The plan does offer some pre-deductible preventative care benefits, including a small copay for basic health screenings at HealthyCheck centers.

BEST FOR: Healthy people looking for a plan that entitles them to open an HSA.

PROS: After burning through your deductible, you'll pay $0 for covered expenses. That makes the plan simpler than others that feature complicated coinsurance fees that you pay even after spending your deductible.

CONS: The plan does have a very high deductible. Women should also note that it features no maternity coverage.
