One of the lowest deductible Blue Cross of California PPO plans, this shares a lot in common with the other Share plans in BC's
California roster. One huge benefit of this plan that really sets it apart from other BC offerings across the board is that it includes maternity coverage. If you're a woman who thinks there's even a chance that you'll become pregnant in the next couple of years, maternity coverage is a must, as the hospital bill for having a baby can be in the tens of thousands.
This has a low, low deductible -- just $500. The "share" in the moniker comes from the fact that you can also visit out-of-network office visits for 50% co-payment, and you can make unlimited visits.
BEST FOR: Women searching for an affordable health plan. It's rare for inexpensive plans to offer maternity benefits, but this one does. Having a child can be a blessing, but without the proper insurance it can also be a financial disaster.
PROS: Plenty of benefits before you have burned through your deductible, which in this case isn't high to begin with.
CONS: Watch the high out-of-pocket maximum of $5,000. In a medical emergency, your own costs will be significant.
