Kaiser’s $30/$2,700 Deductible plan offers some pre-deductible benefits that are uncommon among HSA-qualified plans. Pre-deductible coverage for preventive physicals, well-baby visits and pre-natal care requires a small co-pay, while vaccines require no co-payment. Unlike many high deductible plans, this plan offers maternity coverage.
This HSA-qualified plan comes with a $2,700 deductible for an individual and a $5,450 deductible for a family. Even then, you will have to pay 30 percent co-insurance until the out-of-pocket maximums, which are $5,250 for individuals and $10,500 for families.
BEST FOR: Someone looking for an HMO plan with low premiums and the savings opportunity of an HSA.
PROS: The plan offers a number of benefits that often are not included in typical HSA plans, including maternity coverage and pre-deductible wellness benefits.
CONS: At $5,450 for an individual and $10,500 for a family, the out-of-pocket maximums are high. In general, you must see a primary care doctor before you can receive specialty care.
