Vimo Editorial: Health Plan Profile

One of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado’s many lower cost PPO plans, the RightPlan 40 PPO with Generic Rx is only available to singe adults – not families. It also has the lowest deductible of any of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado’s PPO plans: $0. But with a coinsurance rate of 40%, you can expect to shell out a lot of money before hitting the plan’s annual out-of-pocket maximum of $3500.

Unless, that is, you simply have a few visits to the doctor. The plan has a 40 office visit copay. If you do end up in the hospital, you'll pay a $500 per day hospital co-pay for a maximum of four days. Meanwhile, you’re still responsible for the coinsurance amount.

There's also an annual drug deductible of $500 for brand-name drugs. If you buy generic drugs, there’s no deductible, just a $10 copay.

BEST FOR: Someone who demands a low premium with a $0 deductible. You make up for it with the high coinsurance. The plans are designed for young, active healthy adults, self-employed and early retirees.

PROS: Even if you suffer from a moderate medical emergency, this plan will offer you some financial relief. Another plus is Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado. Anthem's network in Colorado includes more than 10,000 providers and more than 70 acute care hospitals. Members receive free online member services, including interactive, self-service tools to track claim status, confirm benefits and request health plan ID cards.

CONS: The high out-of-pocket maximum of 3500 means you will pay a ton of money before the plan kicks in and covers 100 percent of your covered expenses. In a real medical emergency you will take a financial hit. The plan also does not cover maternity.
