Vimo Editorial: Health Plan Profile

Humana Individual Health Plan members have access to an excellent online health plan management tool that enables them to check status of claims, see how much they’ve spent on healthcare during the year and estimate the costs of common medical procedures, services and prescriptions. Browsing the online features of the plan, you realize Humana really gets the importance of the Internet in making consumer driven healthcare effective for participants.

The more expensive copayment option of the plan will pay 100 percent of costs for in-office visits for illness or injury after a copayment. The option does not apply for preventive care or for nonparticipating providers and is limited to four visits per year.

After the deductible is reached, the plan covers 80 percent of physician and hospital services.  Bear in mind that unless you have significant prescription drug expenses, you won’t enjoy drug benefits from the plan. That’s because Humana policies feature a separate $500 deductible for prescription drugs. You’ll pay 100 percent of the cost of prescription drugs until this deductible is reached. Full prescription drug benefits are an option of the plan if you pay a higher premium per month.

BEST FOR: Individuals who are between jobs, self employed or don’t receive health benefits from work.

PROS: Excellent online system for managing your healthcare costs. Humana also has an excellent network.

CONS: There’s no prescription drug benefit unless you pay more than $500 per year.
