Vimo Editorial: Health Plan Profile

Aetna 's High Deductible 5000 plan is another easy-to-understand HDHP. Basically, Aetna will pay 100 percent of covered expenses after you burn through your $5,000 deductible. This means that, in the event of an accident, you won't have to worry about coinsurance or co-payments after you've spent your deductible. Granted, it is a very high deductible.

Generic drugs are also covered at 100 percent after deductible, but brand-name drugs are not. You'll need to speak to a broker for further details on the brand-name benefits that exist.

That name-brand drugs aren't given much coverage shouldn't come as much of a surprise, because this plan is compatible with a Health Savings Account (HSA). HSA plans generally don't offer much in the way of drug benefits.

BEST FOR: Healthy young people looking for coverage of medical emergencies.

PROS: The very low premiums, Aetna 's excellent network and the tax savings you can enjoy by opening an HSA.

CONS: The sky high deductible and coinsurance maximum means you will spend a huge sum before covered services are paid completely by the insurance company. There also is no maternity coverage.
