Emphysema ... non-surgical care ?
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a term referring to two lung diseases, chronic bronchitis and emphysema, that interfere with normal breathing. Both conditions frequently co-exist, so physicians prefer the term COPD. The term does not include similar obstructive diseases such as asthma. Medicines are often used to control symptoms or to reverse acute exacerbations. COPD in all forms typically progresses if a patient (typically a smoker) doesn't stop smoking. Bronchodilators, nebulizers and corticosteroids have also been effective. Oxygen therapy may be necessary to prolong the life of sufferers who have significant lung dysfunction.
